Curriculum Gr 0-7

TEACH THEM HOW TO LIVE, NOT JUST TO MAKE A LIVING!

A UNIQUE EDUCATIONAL APPROACH; RCCA uses a comprehensive educational system called Accelerated Christian Education (ACE), which aims to motivate and support parents in their quest to help their children reach their maximum potential in School and in life. For more than four decades, ACE has delivered a successful Christian-based International schooling system that provides a rewarding education alternative, relative to learners’ needs. This program utilizes results-driven processes rather than conventionally applied time-focused education curricula. ACE recognizes that each child has a unique learning style with God-given abilities and talents and has developed a learning approach that accommodates learners’ individual capabilities. The curriculum makes it possible for the learner to achieve their full academic potential. This is the foundation upon which future learning is built.

RCCA’s vision is to provide world class end-to-end education solutions and to guide individuals to their FULL POTENTIAL.

ACCELERATED CHRISTIAN EDUCATION (ACE) was founded in 1970 by Donald and Esther Howard in Garland, Texas. The ministry began solely upon God’s leading to meet the need for an individualized, Biblical-based education for children. Their desire was to assist parents, pastors, and school staff in the Lord’s command of Deuteronomy 6:7 “Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."

Medium of Teaching

The medium of teaching at RCCA is English in ALL grades, including Kindergarten. English is offered as a first language to Grade 1-7 learners. English is offered as a second language in the secondary phase..Learners from Grade 2 up to Grade 7 must take Afrikaans as a second language.

Grade  0- Preschool

SHAPE A CHILD, SHAPE A NATION

The grade 0 program is a full year program design to develop higher-level skills from the developmental domains of Language development, executive function, and social and emotional development which prepare a child to be ready to learn to read. Cartoon animals and stories, 60 paces -12 pace in each core subject – Math, English, Social Studies, Science, and Word Building. The program also enables the child to achieve the level of physical development activities necessary for success in reading and learning. Bible and character-building stories are employed to foster quick learning of the letter sound. It includes animal stories and song lyrics for each alphabet song. It encourages understanding of number concepts and word relationships, to strengthen memory, visual, auditory, and coordination skills, and to build Biblical character traits. In each project-related learning phase, children are engaged in key competencies that ensure their success in Gr 0 and beyond, such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity.  The program lays a solid foundation on which to build the rest of the child’s education.

The learning programs within these six areas are designed to provide for the holistic development of the learners.

Language and Literacy Development:- Involves children’s abilities to convey their ideas, thoughts, and feelings through speaking and writing, and their ability to demonstrate early reading skills.

Executive Function:- Focuses on the development of skills necessary for learning, such as self-regulation, attention, and persistence.

Social and Emotional Development: Supports your child’s ability to express and regulate feelings and develop relations with others.

Physical Development and Wellness:- Gives your child opportunities to build large- and small-muscle skills, strength, stamina, and knowledge needed to live a healthy lifestyle.

Cognitive Development:- Supports the mental processes needed to think, make sense of the world, and understand knowledge across different subjects, including mathematics, science, and social studies.

Creative Expression:- Helps your child creatively explore the arts, movement, drama, and music.

Grade 1

GIVE YOUR CHILDREN A SOUND READING FOUNDATION

The learning- to- read program is a phonetic skills program. It utilizes a number of outstanding reading tools- a specially developed alphabet sequence, songs for each of the sounds, poems, displays, and physical activities. Additionally there are character development activities and Bible stories built into the program.

How do we do it: The aim of the learning-to-read program aims to teach letters and sounds of the English alphabet. Each learner must master the recognition of each letter, say each letter sound, blend these sounds together to form words, and properly write each of the letters in alphabetical order. Cartoon animal songs, stories, and physical activities are used, along with a Bible story to foster quick learning of the letter sounds and to teach Christian character.

Advantages: Phonics help children to work out words on their own. A foundation in phonics help children decipher unfamiliar words. Whole word recognition speeds up the reading process. As children practice, reading becomes quicker and more fluid. Phonics help children to sound words, and develop spelling skills.

Grade 2-3

INDIVIDUALISED LEARNING

ACE provides curriculum materials in bite-sized, achievable work text. These work texts, called PACE’s include self-instructional lessons and activities designed to develop thinking skills and create mastery learning. Some courses are enhanced with CD’s, DVDs and computer software. Learners begin a PACE by noting the goals, the concepts they will learn, a Bible verse and a corresponding character trait. Each level consists of 12 PACEs in each  subject. The core curriculum from Grade 0-3 provides students with academics, skill building, reading practice, character and wisdom training, and knowledge of God's Word. From the beginning of each PACE, the learners know what is expected and assume the responsibility for their own learning. Explanations and full-color illustrations and excitement to each lesson, and innovative learning activities reinforce the text material.
